Leaving on a jet plane….don’t know when I’ll be back again….

Posted by on August 10, 2011

What a start to our trip of a lifetime! Three Qantas jets and 3 days later, we arrive in the USA! No mean feat with 7 kids in tow (and one only 4 and a half months!). Worth the jet lag? Absolutely!

Group shot at Natalie and Drew's house in Sydney

Our trip started on August 3rd where we left Perth for Sydney. We stayed overnight at Natalie and Drew’s house. As things have turned out, this was definitely an indicator of what was to come in our new travels. Amazing hospitality and great company. Thanks Nat, Drew, Lachlan and Hunter for making our first leg of the journey a smooth one. The next part of our journey to Los Angeles was much longer, but we still had the LA to New York leg the following morning.

Nat nursing baby Akaisha

Took a week for our baby Akaisha to change her sleeping habits to a more acceptable level (didn’t really enjoy waking at 3:30am, then having to play with her for three hours while her body clock adjusted to the new time zones!) Took “us” a while too, but we are right in the swing of things now.

All sorted for a truly wonderful adventure.

Hey Guys – got it open,

Fantastic so far. I look forward to the kids ones.

    Love Scott

Glad you could join us Scott. The kids’ blogs will be very different to mine, I’m sure. Takes a little bit of setting up behind the scenes, so hopefully not too ong now. Cath

It looks like every kid has one suitcase except Kaitlin appears to have two! Something to do with being a teenager?!

Hi Barb, No…one suitcase for each kid (and us). The extra is full of all the schoolwork etc they need. We were allowed 2 suitcases each, but chose to take only 1 each. I certainly didn’t want to be responsible for looking out for 18 suitcases!! Would have needed two hummers to carry it all! Cath

    Hello Lovely Howitt Clan,
That was a trick, putting an extra child in the stretch Hummer photo just to see if we noticed! We did but not until I was worried I’d missed a major event.

The trip so far looks sensational. Liam will be really impressed with the Hummer when I show him tomorrow. Kaitlin is looking just gorgeous at 15… Happy Birthday from us all.

You’re inspiring us again. Shannon is investigating her Gap year (2013) on exchange to Canada.
Looking forward to your next blogs.

      Hi Carmel, Garry and kids,
The extra child is little Scarlett (the kids’ cousin).
We were impressed ith the Hummer too. A nice change for us!
We think Shannon would love an exchange to Canada. Our plan is to see a few things there before heading around the US. Hopefully what we see will inspire her! Our friends spent a year in Canada and absolutely loved it. Take care and thanks for posting. Cath and family
